CoE DIRECTOR
Dr. Javier Cerrato is a specialist in Sports Medicine at Olympia Quirónsalud, with a career in elite sport spanning more than three decades. He holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Navarra, a specialization in Sports Medicine from the Complutense University of Madrid, a Master's in Sports Traumatology from UCAM Murcia, and a Diploma in Sports Medicine from the International Olympic Committee.
Dr. Cerrato began his career in professional sport in the mid-1990s, going on to serve as team doctor for Atlético de Madrid and the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation before joining Real Madrid C.F., where he worked from 2006 to 2011. His extensive experience spans football, athletics, golf, and skiing, among other disciplines.
In tennis, Dr. Cerrato has been a central figure at the highest level since 1999. He has served as tournament doctor at the Mutua Madrid Open since 2002, Medical Director of ATP and WTA tournaments, Medical Director of the Sony Ericsson WTA Finals, and Medical Director of the Mallorca Open, as well as providing medical services for the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid. He also serves as a doctor for the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation — a role he has held continuously since 1999.

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR
Dr. Ara Kassarjian is Head of Radiology at Olympia Quirónsalud and Founder of Elite Sports Imaging, bringing over two decades of international expertise in musculoskeletal radiology to the care of elite and professional athletes. He holds a Bachelor's in Kinesiology from UCLA, a Doctorate in Medicine and Master's in Surgery from McGill University, and completed his Radiology Residency at Boston University and a Fellowship in Musculoskeletal Radiology at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital.
After a distinguished academic career in the United States — serving as Assistant Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and Director of Musculoskeletal MRI and CT at Massachusetts General Hospital — Dr. Kassarjian relocated to Spain in 2006, where he has since become one of Europe's leading voices in sports imaging. As tournament physician and head of imaging at the Mutua Madrid Open, he also serves in the same capacity at the Acciona Open de España golf tournament.
Dr. Kassarjian's clinical focus centres on MRI, muscle and joint injuries, and athletic groin pain. He is an active member of the European Society of Skeletal Radiology Sports Subcommittee and has contributed to setting imaging standards across the field. With over 70 publications in peer-reviewed journals and faculty credits at more than 100 national and international conferences, he is widely regarded as a leading authority at the intersection of radiology and elite sport.
