Giovanni Di Giacomo, MD is an orthopaedic specialist with an interest in shoulder surgery, arthroscopic surgery of the knee and the surgical prosthetic and arthroscopic surgery of the elbow. Since 1996, Dr Di Giacomo has been chief of the Shoulder Arthroscopic Department at the Concordia Hospital for Special Surgery of Rome (Italy) (ISAKOS Teaching Centre). He has worked in collaboration with a number of scientific bodies including the Italian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, and the Italian Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow. He has also sat on the Board of Directors for the Italian Society of Arthroscopy, and he is the Vice-President of the STMS (Society for Tennis Medicine and Science International Affiliate). Since 1995, he has been the head physician for the Association of Tennis Professionals. Dr Di Giacomo has also contributed to the Italian Open Master Series at Foro Italico, and been the consultant orthopaedic surgeon for a number of Italian football teams.
Dr Di Giacomo has been involved in numerous research projects relating to his specialty area and been published in international publications such as The International Journal of Shoulder Surgery and Arthroscopy: the Journal of Arthroscopy and Related Surgery. He has written a number of books and produced a variety of surgical DVDs. He is also the creator of the Wedged Profile Mini Plate for the surgical technique of the Latarjet procedure, produced by Arthrex. Dr Di Giacomo has presented numerous workshops and seminars on shoulder arthroscopy and is an invited speaker at the 2016 American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Annual Meeting.
